“I have no regrets” says Brother of Murdered Pakistani Social Media Star accused of killing her

Fouzia Azeem, dubbed Qandeel Baloch was a Pakistani social media icon, model and feminist activist who aspired to fulfill her dreams as any 26 year old. If you followed her on her official Instagram page or twitter, she was full of life, giving you a glimpse of her daily life in Pakistan and discussing controversial issues.  I was actually starting to think that women's rights in Pakistan was becoming less rigid, due to her posts and celebrated the change.  I guessed wrong...  During the evening of Friday, July 15, 2016, Baloch was suffocated while she was asleep in her parents' house in Pakistan. Her blood brother Waseem who she financially supported as well as the rest of the family, confessed to the murder saying she was "bringing disrepute" to the family's honor.  He says he's proud he killed his sister, claiming he did it because "Girls are born to stay home. I am proud of what I did."  "I drugged her first, then I killed her," Waseem Baloch says.  He additionally claims that having his friends share her pictures and video clips was "too much" for him and killing his sister was a better alternative than killing himself.  Really? Waseem you should have killed yourself instead since you had an 'issue' with what your sister did.  May her beautiful soul RIP.   Read more on CNN.  See her music video below released last week. What hurts even more are the insensitive tweets from some women.

The week before she died, she released this music video titled 'Ban', which mocked the restrictions placed on women in the country, see video above. I have to admit the video is risqué, not the norm one will expect from a Pakistani woman who lived in the country.

Baloch first received recognition from the media in 2013, when she auditioned for Pakistan Idol; her audition (see HERE), went viral and she became an Internet sensation. Even though it was not a good audition for her, she was gorg and tenacious, leading her to became one of the top 10 most searched people in Pakistan. Some even compared her to Kim Kardashian, however some stated that she was more significant than Kardashian as she went against the norms of society and lived life on her own terms compared to other women in Pakistan.  As her media presence grew, Baloch began to use her platform to comment on women's rights in Pakistani society.

Her meeting with Cleric leric Mufti ( Islamic scholar ) Abdul Qawi in a hotel room to learn more about her faith in-sighted a big controversy, as she is seen here wearing the Mufti's signature hat, in this image she posted on Instagram.  The meeting led to the Mufti being suspended from his position on one of Pakistan's religious committees.

Brother Waseem  - committed the heinous act

Below are Insensitive Tweets celebrating her death,  What hurts more is most are from women
