Issey Miyake, a Japanese fashion Designer created the legendary Fashion House in Tokyo in 1970. Over the years he became known for his tech-driven clothing designs and exhibitions. He loved researching new innovative ways of creating fashionable, comfortable clothing and one of the highlights of his career in the late 80s was experimenting new methods of pleating that would allow both flexibility of movement for the wearer, as well as ease of care and production leading him to add Costume Designer to his credibility for Ballerina productions & museum exhibitions He also became popular for creating the late Apple Founder Steve Jobs signature black turtle-necks he wore all the time:-)
In 1999, Miyake handed over the creative aspect of the brand for his womens collections but still continues to oversee proceedings.
In 2001 Yoshiyuki Miyamae was appointed Creative Director for womens. He is doing an excellent job maintaining the aesthetic of the brand by continuing to use innovative traditional Japanese techniques and fabrics maintaining the look, and has made a name for himself as the man to bring ISSEY MIYAKE into a new era, a claim that we can’t refute. Check out my fav's from his Fall 15 collection.
