Designer Nicholas Kirkwood former finalist for the inaugural BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund Award in 2010, felt that there was a gap in the market for 'Statement' shoes that were in the same league as the hats designed by Phillip Treacy, and the clothes designed by Alexander McQueen so he enrolled at Cordwainers (prestigious College in London for footwear & Millinery Design) in 2001. The architectural quality of his designs and his innovative use of materials has established a market for him giving him notoriety in the Industry.
