Nice, the beautiful capital of the French Riviera was hit with tragedy when a truck plowed into pedestrians during the Bastille Day celebrations on Thursday evening, July 14th, 2016. French officials estimate at least 84 people dead and many injured. The driver was killed by police at the scene. It is unknown if the driver acted alone. There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack so far. French President Francois Hollande extended a nationwide state of emergency for three months. President Obama said in a statement: "We stand in solidarity and partnership with France, our oldest ally." An American father and his 11-year-old son have been confirmed among the dead.
