A must see documentary by BBC Africa -The Fighter and the Pimp: Fighting for Congo's most vulnerable girls in Kinshasa

Being a huge fan of documentary's, I came across this intense film about women in  Kinshasa, a city in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central Africa. Over the years the media has been flooded with horror stories about Congo due to the ongoing political conflict (click here).  The documentary features an amazing lady called Shaki, an ex prostitute from the age of 12 who has managed to turn her life around as a Boxer & Wrestler (these sports are dominated by men in her country), while doing her best to save young girls from the streets of the city.
This documentary was very heavy for me as I am very passionate about women's rights. To hear of multiple men raping a young girl with no justice served is heart wrenching.  An unstable nation always leads to extreme poverty, which trickles down to women having to do what they can to provide for their families.  There is no further info on how to help however I will post if I find a credible source as one has to be careful.  No girl/woman deserves to be raped and my prayer is that this documentary brings awareness to child abuse as well as the sexual exploitation of women in Congo.  I feel helpless however I hope that some NGO can step up and help.

I also want to highlight positive things about this country.  They are known in the fashion world for the amazing sub culture called the 'Sapeurs' (male, if female 'Sapeuse',  featuring both male and female dressed in tailored menswear influenced by the french colonization.  Picture a swag featuring three-piece suits, silk socks, fedoras and canes (click here) for more.  The Congolese are also known to be one of the best musicians & dancers in Africa.  They created a sound known as the rumba (salsa like, very sexy, click here) as well as the soukous (a faster beat click here).
