Just finished the the new Netflix documentary on retired basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, spotlighting his journey from being Reebok’s first brand ambassador in the
’90s to now serving as the company's President (impressive right!), it feels especially timely to see the brand’s
next big move. The
documentary is titled Power Moves with Shaquille O’Neal on Netflix, and it features NBA legends
Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson (another brand ambassador in the 90's, a controversial one, lol), in now Executive roles as they lead Reebok’s 'comeback' in the competitive Sportwear marketplace. One of the methods highlighted was to identify rising Athletes to represent the brand and WNBA star Angel Reese happened to be one amongst others.
The Angel Reese 1 debut sneaker release date is Wednesday, September 18th, 2025, Retail will be $120, available at Reebok online. The collection features three colorways: Diamond Dust, Mebounds (vibrant all-pink), and Receipts Ready (black-and-white w/ sharp red accents). Another highlight in the Docu was Technology; this sneaker packs ERS™ cushioning, nitrogen-infused SuperFloat™ foam, and a TPU exoskeleton upper, designed to perform like a pro shoe while looking stylish off the court. Simply put: it’s comfy, bouncy, supportive, and fashionable.
In the current competitive sportswear market, Reebok is making bold moves emphasizing cutting-edge technology, breaking norms by selecting a WNBA player as a brand ambassador, and showing that performance and comfort can go hand-in-hand with style. With rivals such as Nike and New Balance dominating the space, I’m impressed by what Shaq and his team are building. Still a work in progress, but I can’t wait to see the final results.
