Jean Paul Gaultier Spring/Summer RTW 2026: Duran Lantink’s Bold, Controversial Debut | Paris Fashion Week
Dutch designer Duran Lantink made his debut at Jean Paul Gaultier for Spring/Summer 2026 RTW with a collection dubbed 'Junior', that was
playful, provocative, and unapologetically bold, true to the house’s legacy of
rebellion. He may have pushed the envelop a little too far with some looks
for his debut, overshadowing his true talent. I understand he may have wanted to create buzz and spark controversy, but were some of these looks really
necessary? The show leaned heavily into near-nude looks that has sparked lots of debate. Some may see it as provocative to the
point of vulgarity; others might call it fearless creativity. For me, gender-fluid silhouettes such as the trench
cord set, crop jackets, and playful separates proved the collection’s
potential far more than the shocking moments. Wish he would have shown more of his potential to take the brand into a modern,
exciting direction while staying true to Gaultier’s edgy roots.
The
label, founded in 1976 in Paris by the legendary Jean Paul
Gaultier, has always challenged norms around beauty, gender, and
fashion. Known as the 'enfant terrible' of French fashion (a person whose unconventional or controversial behavior or ideas shock, embarrass, or annoy others), Gaultier quickly
gained fame for daring runway shows, playful and theatrical designs, cone bras,
sailor stripes, and boundary-pushing couture. Over the decades, he earned a
reputation for blending avant-garde creativity with wearable fashion,
influencing generations of designers while making bold statements about
