First Louis Vuitton, Now Chanel? Luxury’s Cybersecurity Problem

First Louis Vuitton in China (see post HERE), now Chanel in the U.S. The luxury fashion world can’t catch a break when it comes to data security. Chanel Inc. just confirmed a data breach that impacted some of its U.S. customers.  If you’ve contacted Chanel’s customer service recently, here’s what you need to know:
The breach was discovered on July 25th, 2025, when Chanel discovered that someone had unauthorized access to one of their U.S.-based databases. That database hosted by a third-party provider, contained customer info from people who had recently contacted Chanel’s support team.

What kind of data got exposed? According to Chanel: Your basics to validate your account– name, address, mailing address, phone #.  Chanel hasn’t shared exactly how many people were affected, just that it was a “subset” of U.S. clients who had reached out to them.  They did bring in Cybersecurity experts ASAP and officially notified affected customers on August 1, 2025.

Why should we care: This isn’t just a one-off incident. More fashion brands are getting hacked, and it’s time they invest more on Cybersecurity, especially when customers are trusting them with personal info. The smarter these hackers get, the more companies have to stay on top of updating security software.  So if you’ve been chatting with Chanel’s client care or planning a luxury haul, now’s a good time to check your inbox.  Stay informed....
